Can the start date on Form I-20 be postponed?

International students should make every effort to arrive in the United States 30 days or less before the start date indicated on their Form I-20 and should carefully consider this date when making travel arrangements.

Universities only allow requests for late arrival in cases of emergency that prevent a student from entering the United States. Otherwise the student must postpone entering the United States until the following semester and wait for a new I-20 to be issued.

Once a student has entered the United States they can not postpone the start date listed on the Form I-20.
