What is a DSO?

DSO stands for “Designated School Official” and is the main contact at universities for international students on an F-1 visa.

The DSO is authorized by the Department of Homeland Security to verify and certify documents for F-1 international students. The DSO will also issue the I-20 form and ensure that international students remain in compliance with state and federal laws.

It is important to communicate regularly with your DSO in order to address any questions or problems involving visas or other official paperwork.
